What is NACL?

NaCl (Native Client) was a sandboxing technology developed by Google to allow near-native speed execution of compiled C or C++ code within a web browser. It aimed to enable complex, computationally intensive applications to run safely within the browser environment without compromising security. While it offered performance benefits, it was eventually superseded by WebAssembly (Wasm) which is now the dominant technology for similar use cases.
