What is MT101?

MT101 is a SWIFT message type used for requesting a transfer. It's a Request for Transfer message. This message is sent by an ordering customer to its bank to request the bank to debit the ordering customer's account and transfer funds to the account of the beneficiary customer at the receiving bank. It's a standardized way to instruct a bank to initiate a funds transfer.
