What is MPLS/VPLS?

MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) is a data forwarding technique used to increase the speed and control the flow of network traffic. VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) is a type of VPN that uses MPLS to create a virtual LAN across geographically separated sites, enabling them to communicate as if they were on the same local network. MPLS is commonly used by service providers to deliver VPN services, traffic engineering, and QoS guarantees, while VPLS is used to extend LANs over a wide area network.
