What is MDR/XDR?

MDR (Managed Detection and Response) and XDR (eXtended Detection and Response) are cybersecurity technologies focused on threat detection and response. MDR is a managed service providing outsourced security operations center (SOC) functions, including 24/7 monitoring, threat hunting, incident analysis, and response. XDR, on the other hand, is a technology platform that collects and correlates data from multiple security layers (endpoints, network, cloud, etc.) to provide broader and more integrated threat detection and response capabilities. XDR aims to break down silos between security tools, enabling faster and more effective incident investigation and remediation. MDR often leverages XDR platforms to enhance its service offerings, but MDR is a service while XDR is a product.
