What is mDNS?

mDNS (Multicast DNS) is a protocol that resolves hostnames to IP addresses within small networks that do not include a conventional DNS server. It uses multicast UDP packets to perform DNS queries and responses, making it easy to set up and use without requiring any configuration. It is commonly used for service discovery on local networks, such as finding printers or file servers, and is a core component of Apple's Bonjour technology.
