Lotus refers to a suite of software products initially developed by Lotus Development Corporation. The most well-known product was Lotus 1-2-3, a spreadsheet program that was highly popular in the 1980s and early 1990s. Other Lotus products included Lotus Notes, a collaborative software platform for email, calendaring, and document management; Lotus SmartSuite, an office suite competing with Microsoft Office; and various other software applications. After IBM acquired Lotus Development Corporation in 1995, the Lotus brand was eventually phased out, with its products integrated into other IBM offerings or discontinued.
