What is LAPS?
Microsoft's Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) manages and randomizes the password of a local administrator account on domain-joined computers. This significantly reduces the risk of lateral traversal attacks that leverage the same local administrator password across multiple machines. LAPS stores the password securely in Active Directory and can be configured to automatically rotate the password on a regular schedule. It is commonly used to improve security posture in Windows environments by mitigating password reuse.
