L2 switching, also known as Layer 2 switching or data link layer switching, forwards network traffic based on the destination MAC address. It operates at the Data Link Layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model. L2 switches learn MAC addresses by examining the source MAC address of incoming frames and store them in a MAC address table.
