What is KRITIS?

KRITIS is a German acronym that stands for 'Kritische Infrastrukturen', which translates to 'Critical Infrastructures' in English. It refers to organizations and facilities of such importance to the state community that their failure or impairment would lead to sustained supply bottlenecks, significant disruptions to public safety or other dramatic consequences. Examples of KRITIS sectors include energy, water, food, information technology and telecommunications, health, finance, transport and traffic, media and culture, and government administration. Ensuring the security and resilience of KRITIS is a major focus of government policy and regulation in Germany.
