ISO 9001 specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS) when an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. ISO 9100 is sector-specific standard that builds upon ISO 9001 and specifies additional aviation, space, and defense industry requirements. Thus, ISO 9001 complements ISO 9100, as certification to ISO 9100 requires compliance with ISO 9001.
