IPX/SPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packet Exchange) is a networking protocol suite originally developed by Novell for its NetWare operating system. It provides connection-oriented and connectionless services for network communication, similar to TCP/IP. IPX is a connectionless protocol used for datagram routing, while SPX is a connection-oriented protocol that provides reliable data delivery. It was commonly used in LAN environments, especially during the 1980s and 1990s, but has been largely replaced by TCP/IP.
