What is Intrusion Detection and Prevention?

Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) are security technologies designed to identify and respond to malicious activity targeting computer systems and networks. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) passively monitor network traffic or system activity, logging and reporting suspicious events. Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) go a step further by actively blocking or preventing detected threats. IDPS are commonly used to protect against various attacks, including malware, network intrusions, and denial-of-service attacks, by analyzing traffic patterns, comparing them to known signatures, and implementing predefined security policies.
