What is interphonie?

Interphonie, often translated as 'intercom' or 'intercom system', is a communication system used for short-distance voice communication. It typically allows one-way or two-way audio communication, and sometimes video, between two or more locations. Intercoms are commonly used for security, access control (e.g., allowing visitors to speak to residents before being granted entry), and internal communication within buildings.
