What is infrastructure?

Infrastructure, in the context of technology, refers to the fundamental physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g., buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for a society or enterprise to operate properly. In IT, it generally refers to the hardware, software, network resources, and services required for the existence, operation and management of an enterprise IT environment. It allows an organization to deliver IT solutions and services to its employees, partners and/or customers and is utilized for computing, data storage, networking, and security.
