What is IF?

IF, which commonly stands for Interactive Fiction, is a genre of narrative-driven interactive entertainment, often text-based, where players use textual commands to control a character and influence the story. It is commonly used to create single-player adventure games, educational simulations, and works of interactive art. Examples of game engines used to create IF are Inform and Twine.
