Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) is a software-defined IT infrastructure that virtualizes all of the elements of conventional 'hardware-defined' systems. HCI typically includes, at a minimum, virtualized computing, software-defined storage, and virtualized networking. HCI systems are commonly used to simplify data center management and increase scalability by pooling resources into a single system that can be easily managed from a unified interface. Common use cases include virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), private clouds, and supporting general-purpose workloads.
