What is honing?

Honing is an abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on a metal workpiece by scrubbing it with a honing stone or honing stick. It is primarily used to improve the geometry, surface finish, and size of holes or bores, especially in engine cylinders, but can also be applied to external surfaces. Honing uses abrasive stones or sticks to remove small amounts of material, resulting in a very smooth and accurate surface.
