What is GCMSMS?

GC-MS/MS stands for Gas Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry. It is an analytical technique that combines the separation capabilities of gas chromatography with the identification power of tandem mass spectrometry. In GC, compounds are separated based on their boiling points and affinity for the stationary phase. The eluting compounds then enter the MS/MS, where they are first ionized and fragmented (MS1). A specific fragment ion is then selected and further fragmented (MS2). The resulting fragment ions are then detected and quantified. GC-MS/MS is used for highly sensitive and selective detection and quantification of target analytes in complex matrices. It is commonly used in environmental monitoring, food safety, clinical toxicology, and pharmaceutical analysis.
