**Fluorescent Penetrant**

What is Fluorescent Penetrant?

Fluorescent penetrant testing (FPT), also known as liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) or dye penetrant inspection (DPI), is a widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) method to detect surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials (metals, plastics, or ceramics). A fluorescent dye is applied to the surface, allowed to penetrate into any defects, excess penetrant is removed, and then a developer is applied. The developer draws the trapped penetrant to the surface, making the defects visible under ultraviolet (UV) light.
