What is faxes?

Fax, short for facsimile, is a technology used to transmit documents electronically over telephone lines. A fax machine scans a document, converts it into an electrical signal, and transmits it to another fax machine, which then reconstructs the image on paper. While largely replaced by email and digital document sharing, faxes were once a very common method for transmitting documents, especially in business and legal settings, due to their perceived security and legal validity.
