What is ERP/MES?

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems integrate all facets of an operation, including product planning, development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing, in a single database. ERP systems are commonly used to manage and automate back-office functions related to technology, services, and human resources. MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is a computerized system used in manufacturing, to track and document the transformation of raw materials into finished goods. MES provides information that helps manufacturing decision-makers understand how current conditions on the plant floor can be optimized to improve production output. MES systems work in real time to enable the control of multiple elements of the production process (e.g. input materials, personnel, machines and support services).
