What is EPR system?

An EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) system is a policy approach where producers take significant responsibility (financial and/or physical) for the treatment or disposal of post-consumer products. EPR systems are commonly used to manage waste streams like packaging, electronics, and batteries, shifting the burden of waste management from municipalities and taxpayers to the producers of these goods. The goal is to incentivize producers to design products that are more easily recyclable, reusable, or less toxic.
