What is EIP?

EIP stands for Ethereum Improvement Proposal. It is a design document providing information to the Ethereum community, or describing a new feature for Ethereum or its environment. The EIP should provide a concise technical specification of the feature and a rationale for the feature. The goal is to be the primary mechanisms for proposing new features, collecting community technical input on an issue, and documenting the design decisions that have gone into Ethereum.

What other technologies are related to EIP?

EIP Competitor Technologies

Enterprise Application Integration is a broader architectural approach, where EIP would be a specific solution in that broader context, and so might be considered a competitor to certain EAI approaches.

Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is an architectural pattern for implementing SOA, and is an alternative way to connect applications and microservices as compared to an EIP based system.

Microservices is an architectural style where applications are built as a collection of small, independent services. Integration between microservices can be achieved using EIP, however other integration patterns are also used.
