What is E1/T1?

E1 and T1 are digital carrier systems used for transmitting digital data over telephone lines. T1, primarily used in North America and Japan, transmits data at 1.544 Mbps. E1, used in Europe and other parts of the world, transmits data at 2.048 Mbps. They are commonly used for connecting PBXs (Private Branch Exchanges) to the public switched telephone network (PSTN), providing dedicated bandwidth for voice and data communication.
