What is DRGs?

Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) are a patient classification system that standardizes prospective payment to hospitals and encourages cost containment. They categorize hospital cases into groups expected to have similar hospital resource use. Hospitals are paid a predetermined rate for each DRG, regardless of the actual cost of treatment, incentivizing efficient care.
