What is DO178C?

DO-178C is a primary standard for developing safety-critical airborne systems. It provides guidance for the development of airborne systems and equipment that are to be installed on civil aircraft. It covers all aspects of the software life cycle, from planning to requirements, design, coding, integration, testing, and configuration management, ensuring software meets stringent safety requirements depending on the software level (A to E).
