What is DNS/BIND?

DNS (Domain Name System) is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or any resource participating in the Internet or a private network. It translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide. BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is the most widely used DNS server software on the Internet. It implements the DNS protocols for translating hostnames to IP addresses and vice versa, allowing users to access resources using easy-to-remember names instead of numerical addresses. It's used for managing domain name resolution on servers.
