What is DFIR?

DFIR stands for Digital Forensics and Incident Response. It is a branch of cybersecurity focused on investigating and responding to cyber incidents, such as data breaches, malware infections, and unauthorized access. Digital forensics involves collecting and analyzing digital evidence from various sources (e.g., computers, networks, mobile devices) to understand the who, what, when, where, and how of an incident. Incident response encompasses the steps taken to contain, eradicate, and recover from a cyber incident, as well as to prevent future occurrences. DFIR is commonly used to identify attackers, understand their methods, recover lost data, restore systems to a secure state, and improve overall security posture.
