What is demilitarized zones?

A demilitarized zone (DMZ) is a buffer area separating two or more parties, such as countries or network security systems, where military installations, activities, or personnel are prohibited. In computer networking, a DMZ refers to a network segment that sits between an organization's internal network and the external network (typically the internet). It is used to expose services to an untrusted network while protecting the internal network. This is achieved by placing servers that need to be accessible from the outside (e.g., web servers, mail servers) in the DMZ, so if they are compromised, the attacker would still need to breach the internal network's firewall to gain access to sensitive data.
