What is CMTS?

A Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) is a piece of equipment, usually located in a cable company's headend or hubsite, that is used to exchange digital signals with cable modems on a cable network. Essentially, it's the cable company's end of the DOCSIS connection, similar to how a DSLAM is used in a DSL network. It handles upstream and downstream data traffic, managing bandwidth allocation and ensuring data delivery between the internet and subscribers' cable modems.
