Apache Accumulo is a sorted, distributed key/value store that provides robust, scalable data storage and retrieval. It is based on Google's BigTable design and built on top of Apache Hadoop. Accumulo adds a cell-level security mechanism, allowing fine-grained access control to data. It's commonly used in applications requiring high security, data provenance, and the ability to perform complex analytics on large datasets. CloudBase is the predecessor to Accumulo, developed by the NSA. Accumulo became an Apache project after CloudBase's core concepts were open-sourced.
