What is Chemical Engineering?

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences (physics and chemistry), life sciences (biology, microbiology and biochemistry), together with mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and use chemicals, materials and energy. In essence, chemical engineers design and operate processes for the chemical, physical, and biological transformation of matter to create products we use every day. This involves optimizing reactions, designing equipment, managing safety, and addressing environmental concerns. Common applications include the production of fuels, pharmaceuticals, plastics, food, and many other industrial products.
