What is chemical?

Chemistry is the study of matter and its properties as well as how matter changes. As a technology, chemistry and chemicals are involved in a vast array of applications, from the creation of new materials (plastics, alloys, composites) and pharmaceuticals to the development of fuels, fertilizers, and industrial processes. It's a foundational technology for many other fields.
