What is Centrex?

Centrex (Central Exchange) is a business telephone system that provides features similar to a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) but is hosted at the telephone company's central office. This means the business does not need to maintain on-site phone system hardware. Commonly used by small and medium sized businesses, Centrex offers features like call transfer, call waiting, and conferencing, managed and updated by the service provider.
