Category 5e (Cat5e) cable is a twisted pair cable for computer networks. Since 2001, it has been the most commonly used cable for Ethernet networks. Cat5e improves upon Cat5 by more strictly limiting crosstalk and system noise. It is used for carrying data signals for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet networks, as well as other networking technologies. It supports frequencies up to 100 MHz and data rates up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gigabit Ethernet) over relatively short distances (typically up to 100 meters).
