What is buffers?

In computer science, a buffer is a region of memory used to temporarily hold data while it is being moved from one place to another. Buffers are commonly used in I/O operations to handle the difference in speed between different devices or processes, or to collect multiple small pieces of data before writing them to a file or network connection in a more efficient batch. Buffers can be implemented in hardware (e.g., in network interface cards) or software (e.g., in operating system kernels or application programs).
