What is Botnet?

A botnet is a network of computers infected with malware that allows a remote attacker (the bot herder) to control them. These compromised machines, or 'bots,' can be used to perform malicious tasks such as sending spam, launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, stealing data, and mining cryptocurrency, all without the owners' knowledge. Botnets are often created and maintained for financial gain.
