What is AVX?

AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) is an instruction set extension to the x86 instruction set architecture for microprocessors from Intel and AMD. AVX introduces 128-bit and 256-bit wide SIMD registers, enabling processors to perform the same operation on multiple data points simultaneously. This enhances performance in applications involving multimedia processing, scientific simulations, financial analysis, and other computationally intensive tasks. Later versions, like AVX2 and AVX-512, expand on these capabilities with more registers and new instructions.
