What is Applet?

A Java applet was a small application written in the Java programming language, or another language that could be compiled to Java bytecode, and delivered to users in the form of Java bytecode. Applets were designed to run inside a web browser using the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). They were used to create interactive features and multimedia content on websites. Due to security concerns and the emergence of alternative technologies like HTML5, applets have largely been deprecated and are no longer widely supported by modern browsers.
